Welcome my dear tea loving friends. Come right in and set a spell.

The water is hot in the pot and all is ready.
We sat in the "Front Parlor" and waited for the rest of the guest to arrive.
We nibbled on fruit and crackers while enjoying some introductory tea.

Then, when all are here, we entered the "Tea Room" for a fine tea and delights.

Oh, the joy of good food ,friend and conversation. We ate and read love letters to each other.
"The Love letters made the treats sweeter."

After tea we moved to a small "Sitting Room" where we tried on hats from my hat collection and posed for the camera. These are the not-so-shy ones.

At the end of it all and time for sweet partings, I could tell my guest were content and wanting a return visit soon.

Wednesday Preperations for the tea.

Today, I spent hours in the tea salon preparing for "The Month of Love Tea." I want to use the Valentine's theme, but more towards romance and love. So I decided on Cherubs rather then red hearts. I found this lovely glass top table at a flea market for $20.00. It makes for an excellent centerpiece.

On the base of the small table is two little Cherubs playing.

I will use to top of the table for a grand display of fruit and chocolates pastries.

I also found this great plate with little cherubs floating on the clouds. It is perfect to add to the theme.

After doing some research on this little plate, found it to be quite a collector's item.

I think the table is going to be perfect. I will start the shopping for the menu tomorrow.

the tea is not until Sunday. I have two good days to finalize everything.

The Month of Love Tea

We have 3 Days until Valentine's Day. This means we are slowly moving towards Spring. It is also a great time for a Romantic Tea with friends and family. February is the month of Love. It is a wonderful time to make new friends and let your old friends know how important they are in your life.
So, at this tea , we can read to each other old Victorian love letters and poems. We can sit and spend this time getting to re-know each other. The cost? "Priceless".
I was sent this lovely book by a friend who feels I am such a romanticist. Which I truly am. You must come to tea and enjoy the lovely pages of this book. We will enjoy the tasting on some new teas I have found while reading to each other. What a passionate way to share our friendship..

A New Year to a Healthier me and my Tea Parties!

I have always loved giving tea parties with a beautiful table filled with sweets and high carb treats. It's is my passion. "The sweeter the better" was my motto. Lots of cakes and pastries to delight the sole.
While enjoying these wonderful treats, over time, I have gained 30 lbs.
Well, it is a new year and a new program.
I have just started the Atkins Program. I was introduced to it years ago, but fell away from the program in order to enjoy my tea parties with my guest without restrictions.

Now, that I am on the program again, I want to learn how to make low cabs, no sugar, delicious tea treats for me and my guest to enjoy. It is going to be a challenge..
I am sure my guest are going to enjoy the extra effort in order to make the tea party yummy and healthy.
If any one of my tea friends have any low cab recipes to share, it would be highly appreciated.

All is peaceful. I just watched the sun come up here in New England. It is cold outside, but it is as it should be for this time of the year. While I am having my first cup of Earl Gray for the day, I feel it is the perfect time to sit and send my Tea friend good wishes. Shattered Christmas Cup.

Talk about broken dreams. Yesterday, I dropped my favorite Christmas tea cup. It came from my Auntie's estate. I remember the day I brought it home, feeling so proud to have something of hers.
As I took it down off the shelf, it fell and shattered into many pieces.

I was totally devastated.
I always had it displayed on a wall shelf in the tea parlor.

It is made of fine china and it does not glue well. I did everything I could to save it.
Here is my end product. It looks so sad. I can not drink from it anymore. It is just a decoration and fond memories.

I found this lovely tea cup in a thrift store called Savers

. I do not know if you have one in your state.

It is a Royal Abert. I just love all the Royal Abert collection. This was from a tea cup of the month collection. I do not have all the months, but I love this cup just the same.

Isn't it lovely for the month of Noveber. I have been using it daily for my tea relaxation.

Back On Track for October Fun!

I know I have not posted in awhile. I needed some time to collect my thoughts and and get back in focus. I sent the last 2 months side tracked. My emotions got the best of me for a moment. But now I am back on track. I hope all have been well and enjoying those Fall tea Parties.

I have planned a Black Widow Tea Party for next week. It will be on Halloween night. After you have dressed in your costume for the evening, you can drop by for trick-or- treat or tea. It will start your evening off with a frightful feeling.

A Civil War Tea

Even during the Civil War in 1861, it was a time to still be civil and enjoy the taking of tea.

It was a honor to have the First Lady and President Lincoln stop in for tea. After inspecting his Army, he graciously excepted to take tea with the "Ladies of Unity".

Having tea always has a way with making the world stand still.Come step back in time with us.

My two favorite places to be is, in a fine Tea Room or at a flea Market. Who know that I would have it both at the Civil War Reenactment on Chase Farm 2011.

End of the Summer Tea!

I am all settled in my new job. The Tea Salon is back up and running. It is a new month, new season and a good time for tea.

This ending Saturday, I invited some of my family and friends over for tea. It was a renewed experience. Summer is over and it is time for new adventures. We sat and talked about our Summer fun and what we plan for the cooler weather. All agreeded that they will come to the Salon more ofter to enjoy the Fall harvest treats. This is a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the up coming season. Step back in time and take in the sound of tranquility and the smells of home baked goods. Perfect time to warm up the oven after a long Summer shut down.

It was a peaceful Saturday afternoon and I am looking for many more.

Hurricane Storm comes to New England!

Everything is so peaceful here at the tea salon. It's a day before hurricane storms to hit down here in New England. All have been instructed to take precaution and prepare for the worst. I will pray for the best.

I am here at the tea salon relaxing and keeping a watch on the wather. It seems we are in for hurrican winds and rain flooding. All is calm right now. "It's the calm before the storm."

I invite you to come sit and have tea with me before all have to get their cars from off the streets. We can eat sweets and sip tea until the storm sends you home.

It suppose to start late tonight and be really bad tomorrow(Sunday) I will still be here sipping tea and staying out of harm's way!

I pray for all that are in the path of this storm for safety and best wishes to all that have just come through it.

Good News from the tea Lady

The Good news tea friends!
I have been settling in to my new job. I am now Concierge at the Marriott Hotel. It was time to leave Banquets. It is ware and tare on the body. I have been in this field for 23 years.

My new job have it's challenges, but I love them. I like being with the guests on a daily bases, getting to know them personally. It is quite rewarding. The pay rate is much lower, but I thank God I am still physically able to work.

My son Alexander has just got a new promotion in rank in the National Guards.His is now Sargent Barada.

My mother-in-law came from New York just to be here to see this happen.
It was all so nice to see her after so many years. Alaxander was very happy his grandmother was able to come.
His grandmother always wanted her son to be in the Military, but that never happen. She was so proud that Alexander deiced to make it his life long career.

I wish all the family could have been there, but I am grateful for my mother-in-law's visit.

I am getting excited about redesigning my tea salon and getting ready for all the Fall Tea Events. My decision to keep my apartment and the salon was the best for these times. I will need to do more teas to help with my income. What is nice is that I will have the time I need to spend on planning and enjoying my guest for tea.

It has been my dream for many years to open a tea parlor and I am feeling the time is now.

Many friend I know have retired form their so- called life long jobs and have set out to open a tea parlor. It has worked out very well for them.
This will be another challenge for me and I will need all of the help I can get.

I know many of my friends here that come to visit my blog have already have tea parlors set up and are doing quite well. I ask for your suggestions and support.
This very hot Summer is slowly coming to an end and I am so wishing for cooler weather.I wish you all a safe and adventurous Labor Day. It will be here before you know it and summer will be over.

I am very happy to say that I have decide not to move. It is a God sent! Much of my time and effort has went into setting up my tea salon and home. I became overwhelmed with the process of moving. I became very ill. With your inspiration and long contemplating, I began to realize that this move would not be good for me at this time.

A big weight have been lifted and I am whole again. "Thank to the Lord".
So the kettle for tea is back on and your company is needed and welcomed!

I know you have said to yourself, where is that Lady Estelle? She has not been posting lately!
Well my dear tea friends, I have been well, but I have been also planning a move. It is very difficult for me.

I hate to pack up all my beautiful tea set and things and upset my many hours of decorating. I know, you know the feeling. All is array and broken down ready to be transporting.

I will be moving to a smaller place in an old historic town of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. It will be closer to the Hearthside House, where I am a docent. I just love the area.
Well, I must go back to work. I just needed to stop and sit and have a cup of tea and share this time with you. I went browseing to your blogs to peek in and see how your summer is going. I see all is well.

I will have much to tell you about my new place and tons of photos soon!

The Docents to Hearthside awaits their guest to arrive. Coming up the walkway to the mansion was many young girls and their American Girl Dolls. It was a sight to behold.

Before entering the building, all the girls got to posse while sitting in an old 1800's buggie.

Now on to Tea!

We must all remember our Tea Etiquette that was taught by Lady Estelle.

At the end of the event, even Lady Estelle had to go for a buggie ride.

Estelle, Estelle, how is your garden growing?
They say that Memorial Day weekend, here in New England is the best time to put in your vegetables and herbs. This weekend was truly the perfect time.

Well, take a trip out onto my little porch and see what's growing.

I have planted some Basil and Fresh Mint, some Green beans, String Beans, Early Girl Tomatoes, Patio Tomatoes, Crookneck Squash and cucumbers.

And for some color, I planted some French Marigold to brighten up a city patio garden!

So, tell me, how is your garden growing?

My Avonwalk for Breast Cancer 2011

This was a glorious weekend. Full of adventure and rewards. This is my 8th year and I am still motivated in this "Crusade and Fight for a Cure."
Every year I have my biggest supporter waiting in the same spot to cheer me on along the route. She is quit delightful and brings me joy to see her sitting just waiting for me.

I sit with her for awhile as I hydrate myself for the next several miles to come. She offers the Walkers some lemonade for their travels. She is a loyal supporter and friends.
As you travel alone the route it is a great time to stop and admire the community that enjoy this event each year and come out to cheer us on.

This is why, I return each year, to feel the rewards and approval. The fund raising is a challenge, but this is the rewards.

I am pleased to say, that I have raised my goal of $1,800.00 with the help of all of my dear friends and family.

All the proceeds goes to finding a cure and to help the women and men who would not be able to afford the medical funds need for their care of this disease.
We walked and raised 5.9 million dollars for this cause. "I am proud to be apart of this."

Enjoying the Royal Wedding!

I was excited as a bride to be myself today. I got up very early in the morning ( around 5am) to watch the Royal Wedding in the tellie. First, most of all, I put on the hot water to prepare for tea. I pick out a lovely sampler of TWININGS " Prince of Wales Tea", to have in my Queen Victoria "Royal Collection Tea Cup."

As I waited for the water to boil and began to dress in a very British style. It was about 6am, I was all dressed, water was hot and I began to sit down to enjoy the spectacular wedding.

Now that was truly a fairytale wedding. I just imagined it was me. It was all a "little girls dream". How lucky she is! I wish them a happy- ever- after.

This is a celebration for the world. I truly wish all my Victorian and tea friends from all over the world a peaceful and comforting day.

If you took the time out to watch the wedding, than use this time to pray for the rest of the world and wish them as much happiness as Prince William and Princess Kate are today.

An Excellent Book by Cheryl Kling

I just finished a excellent book by Cheryl Kling called "Nature's Royal Tea". What a delight!
It was fun reading it to my grand daughter. I had to read it to her two times. She loved it so much.
It is about an invitation, on a Spring day, to tea with Queen May. She sends out a firefly to invite her nature friends for a delightful afternoon of treats and friendship. It is a must read. The illustrations are so adorable.
It is a great gift to give to a child with a Spring birthday.

I am joining my tea friends for Tea Time Tuesday.
I invited my friends over this past Sunday for a Spring Time Tea.

The table was all set by 1pm before my guest arrived.

The tea was on display and the hot water was on.

The first to arrive was my good friend Gentle Big Bear and his companion, Lady Vickie.

He even wore his favorite hat.

Then the Ladies can to show off their Spring hats and attire.

It was a lovely afternoon. I thinks Queen Victoria herself would have enjoyed herself.

The Victorian Tea Society of Providence

was established in 2001 to bring together Ladies and Gentlemen who share a love for the Victorian Era and to make new friends. We are a society of women and men dedicated to the enjoyment of tea and friendship. We lunch, laugh and learn while relaxing with other tea lovers. Based in the New England area, located in Rhode Island.

In our small groups, we each take turns being the host or hostess of the month. The tea party host or hostess may choose to serve a luncheon with a formal, informal, or even a witty theme. He or she may even plan an outing to visit a tea house, museum, etc. There is a $10 monthly fee, which is given to the host or hostess for that month to help defray the costs. That way we don't have to charge an annual membership fee. Join us! Simply comment us here at the bottom of this post. Give us your full name, email address, and tell us a little about yourself. We'd love to have you!

How it all started!
It was in 2001 that Lady Estelle started the chapter of Lady Estelle's Victorian Tea Society, She was always looking for new and fun things to do. While browsing the internet she came upon "The Red Hat Society" where women gather for fun. This seemed like, what she was looking for.

At 52, she decides life is too short to worry about getting older, so she got the biggest red hat and joined the chapter to have some fun. The Red Hat signified her freedom to be herself.

An idea was born . . . a challenge! Why just be apart of just a woman's society? Why not start her own society of women and men to have fun? She was always interested in the Victorian/Edwardian Era, loved having tea parties and entertaining.

So,she started calling her friends that she thought would like to form a Victorian Tea Society. Without any problem she soon had 4 ladies, including her youngest daughter and son interested in the idea. The arrangements were made to meet at Baxter's on December 22nd, wearing their favorite hats and Sunday best attire. The Hats was their statement of Freedom to have Fun.

At the first gathering the table was beautifully arranged with tablecloths, lace napkins, napkin holders, flowers, candles, china, silver, and pretty place cards indicating our place at the table. the menu included sandwiches, strawberry shortcake, scones, clotted cream and jams, and best of all, the tea was served. They gave themselves the royal treatment.
The Victorian Tea Society was officially launched, as they raised their cups and toasted, "Lady Estelle's Victorian Tea Society was on the go!

So look out Providence, here they come wearing their Hats with Pride and Style!

The Victorian Society is still running strong.
It is now called the Victorian Tea Society of Providence. Come join us at the the Tea Salon and enjoy making friends the old fashion way.

For our traditional Annual Mother's Day Tea, Hearthside is "Going to the Races"!

Lincoln ---- The historic Hearthside mansion offers the perfect setting for the elegance and tradition of a Victorian Tea Party, and so once again this year, Friends of Hearthside are sponsoring their Traditional Mother's Day Tea on Saturday, May 7, 2011

The Tea provides an experience of grandeur of the late 19 century, when elaborate teas were fashionable social events.

Ladies and gentlemen would often meet in the afternoon to enjoy tea and conversation among elegant settings of lace and dainty china tea cups, with wonderful creations of miniature tea sandwiches, scones, and scrumptious sweets. As with so many Victorian traditions, elaborate dress, as well as proper etiquette, was followed for the ritual of Afternoon Tea. Women would gather with big feathered hats, long full dresses and gloved slim hands.

The volunteers from Friends of Hearthside, who will be dressed in their Victorian finery, cordially invite their guests to experience a memorable day by joining in the tradition of Afternoon Tea.

While Victorian dress is optional, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite hats.

The theme for this year’s Tea will be “Going to the Races.” and will feature our very own Victorian lady, Lady Estelle T. Barada, who will discuss the history of the "Kentucky Derby" and the tradition of "Wearing of the Hats".

Her presentation will start by showing you what the young lady of Stephen Hopkins Smith's fancy, would have worn on that afternoon buggy ride though Great Road, in 1810.

Then she will time travel to the mid 1800's and what the ladies worn to a Victorian Tea and to the Royal Ascot. Also, the type of hat and bonnets worn during the Civil War era of the mid 1860's.

Then you will travel to the 1900's and see what Mrs Talbot of Hearthside might have worn as she went visiting, a day at Churchill Downs, riding in the motor car or a voyage on the Titanic.
The Edwardian Hats were the most largest and over the top in any era.
Then traveling into the vintage hats era of the 1930's - 1950's.

She will also exhibit some of her favorite hats from her private collection.

This will be a most exciting adventure into the History of Hat's and a Day at the Races!

Prizes will be given for the “most beautiful” and “most unusual” hats.

In the midst of our busy and hectic schedules, the Afternoon Tea is an opportunity to experience and relish in the luxury of slowing down and visiting with friends.“It’s a true step back in time”, says Lady Estelle.

In addition to enjoying the rituals of Tea and the hat presentation, there will also be tours of the 10-room house given , following the tea.

Special gifts for mother will also be available at the Hearthside Gift Shop.

This popular event, now in its tenth year, is expected to draw 60 guests. Space is limited.

All proceeds from the event benefit the restoration of the historic homestead.

Often times referred to as “the house that love built”, Hearthside was built with lottery winnings in 1810 by Stephen Hopkins Smith with the hope of winning the heart of his lady love.

Hearthside, a landmark in Lincoln, is considered to be one of the finest examples of a Federal style home in Rhode Island, with its ogee curved roofline and two-story pillared porch.

Friends of Hearthside is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve the historic town-owned mansion.

Hearthside is located on Rt. 123 at the intersection of Breakneck Hill Road and Great Road in Lincoln.

I am so excited about a little bit of Royalty added to my tea collection.
I have waited a long time for thees beautiful cups to arrive. They sat in England's costume for a month.
I am very happy they arrived to the United States in one piece.

Exclusive to the Royal Collection, the exquisite pattern of this English Fine Bone China tea cup and saucer is taken from a dessert stand which formed part of a Minton service purchased by Queen Victoria at The Great Exhibition in 1851. Each piece is finished by hand using 22 carat gold.Comes in Royal Collection box stamped with Made in England.

My favorite! The Queen Victoria Tea Cup & Saucer

Width 14cm (5½) Height 6cm (3”)

This item has been hand gilded using 22 carat gold, and comes tissue wrapped in a presentation box with an information card. I love the V in the pattern of the saucer.

Celebrate Spring With Victoria!

Today, I am having a Spring Blog Party with Victoria and all my tea friends!

In preparing for my celebration of Spring, I wanted to add a little of the out doors inside, until I can get out in the garden. While searching for Spring decor, I found these two little fellows at a thrift Shop. They begged to come home with me. I could not resist.

They have adjusted well to the decor of the Parlor. Sitting comfortably under some plants they looks so real.
They are no borther, no fuss nor do I have to feed them. They give that sign that Spring is truely here.

We will have to celebrate the first couple of days inside, because we, here in New England are still having snow. Our mid afternoon days are warm with the sun shining though the windows.

But, by late afternoon and our nights are very chilly.

The Tea Salon is ready for a Spring Tea Party which is in the planning for next month.

There are so many ideas for a celeration at this time of year.

I am sure you have some Spring celebrations in progress. I would love to get a sneek preview.

A Royal Halsey-Very Fine

This is a lovely pink cup I purchased from the Historic Hearthside House Gift Shop. I have had my eye on this cup for quit awhile now.

"Royal Halsey" very fine china cup and saucer. The cup is scalloped in design. The inside is plain and looks like Mother of Pearl with a beautiful floral design. The outside is pink and trimmed in gold with a gold handle The saucer is also scalloped with gold trim and a floral design

This is very dainty and very fitting for a "quiet afternoon tea"!

Today I am joining Martha's Tea Cup Tuesday.
I had not planned to because I had not gotten a new cup in days.
Well the best thing happen. The post man just dropped me off a package from my Tea Swap partner on my tea corner site.
Low and behold, a beautiful tea cup.

I truly love this cup because it matches this lovely lonely tea pot I got from a yard sale last year.

Along with the cup was a nice supply of tea for the month and gift to please the sole.

My thanks goes out to Lady Beth and I wish her a warm and sunny Tea Cup Tuesday!

They have just opened up new Savers Store right in my neighborhood. It is in walking distance. If you do not know of or have a Savers in your town, it is like a Salvation Army Thrift Shop. Great things for a great price.
Well, look what I found on my first visit.

These two lovely cups are from the "Flowers of the Month Collection". These Royal Albert are in good condition. I only have only 2 of 12, but I love them just the same.

When It Rains, It Pours Goodness!

Today was a gracious day. I just received my Tax Returns which was so greatly need at this point. I was so excited. After receiving the check, my neighbor came with a box in his hand to my door. What could this be?
When it rain, it pours goodness. It was my Tea Cup Trade Package from Jenny's Heart.
I had been waiting for this for a couple of days, after Jenny told me she had sent it. I was beginning to worry. My package was sent to the wrong house.

My address is 210 and it was sent to 201. I am very lucky I have good honest neighbors.
It was very well protect in a plastic container. I will remember this style of packing on my next tea cup trade.

It contained much love and care. I want to thank Jenny for all the thought she put into this package.

All wrap tightly with care was this lovely fine china tea cup. I love the soft colors in the pattern.

I also received a travel map of her town in Franklin, Va, a Yankees Candle travel Car spray (Garden Sweet Pea), travel body powder, two boxes of Russell Stove Chocolates, a Valentine's note pad and a beautiful pink flower scarf that Dollie like to keep warm in.

With all the travel items, I feel I must take a trip to visit my new friend in Franklin, Va.

My Tea Cup Trade With "JENNY"S HEART"!

My tea cup trade partner is a lovely lady named Jenny.
When you get a chance, go and visit her at "JENNY"S HEART"
I spent so much time looking to find that perfect tea cup to buy for her. Then after days of not finding what I wanted, I realized that a trade should be something special of mine, something I treasure, not bought. So, I sent Jenny a cup and sauce from my favorite China Dinner Set.

This set was given to me many years ago from and old friend that has pasted away. It was from his mother. They were from Poland. The pattern is a soft pink and blue floral. It's beautifully trimmed with gold.

It was hard to show you the label on the bottom, but it says Johann Haviland Bavaria, Germany.

I love the pattern on this china. I have done some research on the company and it's a good quality china wear.

The tea cup has a charming and elegant style.

I hope she will love this tea cup as much as I enjoyed giving it to her.
She told me she loved dainty things, so I also sent her some antique ladies hankies. You must not send a tea cup with no tea, so I sent her Whole Leaf Organic Tea Sachets.

I am still looking for the history of the three legged tea cup. This is my only tea cup with three legs.

When I got it, I used it for jewelry on my dresser. I had never seen one use at a tea party, so I thought of it as only decoration.

Now I see it in a diffent light. I took it out fo the bedroom and into the dinner room

It was made by the Lefton Company. That is what it says on the bottom of the cup.

The Lefton mark can be found on a wide array of pottery, porcelain, and glass imported into the United States by the George Zoltan Lefton Company. The company was founded by this new immigrant from Hungary after he arrived in Chicago, Illinois in 1939 and established the company in 1940. George Lefton had previously worked in the clothing and sportswear industry, but he was a collector of fine porcelain and dreamed of entering that business. America offered the backdrop for even a new immigrant into the country to have a chance at commercal success. George Zoltan Lefton had always admired the quality and workmanship in finer Japanese and oriental porcelain, and after the end of World War II he pursued business relationships in post-war Occupied Japan to export Japanese porcelain to America through his company. George was one of the first American businessmen to enter post-war Japan, and he worked with a Japanese-American named Nunome who helps him to arrange the commercial contracts and becomes his business agent in Japan. Early Lefton china was imported into the U.S. with a "Made in Occupied Japan" mark, used in the years immediately following World War II commencing in about 1946. While not comparable to the best wares of European or Chinese porcelain manufacturers, Japanese porcelain was still of good quality and was produced at a cost that made it affordable for the average American family in the post-war years. The export of china and ceramics was a key contributor to the emergence of Japan from the destitution of the war years and the re-invigoration of their economy. Lefton made a wide variety of pieces, from kitchenware and utilitarian pieces to purely decorative pieces to be displayed on the living room shelf. The company is still in business today, and still makes collector series such as the Colonial Village Collection introduced in 1987, the Historic American Lighthouse Collection in 1991, and the Great American Carousal Collection in 1995. The company's marks have changed over the course of production, but most were used for long periods of time and lack any definitive dating marks. As such, styles and colors are more helpful in dating Lefton China."

I knew it was special because you do not see to many around.

I never make a New Year Resolution, but I am going to make one this year. It will be to take more time for myself. I am not saying that I am going to be selfish, but to not put myself on the back burner, like I have been doing. I really enjoy caring for me family, giving my all to my job, volunteering all my spare time to Hearthside and time at daily monitoring my websites and blogs. Somewhere in all of this, I have not spent any time to self improvement. My spiritual health is in need of repair. My physical health need a lot of attention.

Season Greeting to all my Tea Friends
Here is a lovely Bird Story for the Christmas Season.

A friend of mine, gave me a beautiful white bird cage. Although, I did not have any birds, I brought some lovely bird Christmas ornaments to decorate it with.

I have about six little bird doing quit nicely in the cage. I added some snow to the bottom of the cage and it makes for a winter wonderland.

I spent the last two weeks decorating the hotel, where I work and The Hearthside House, where I am a docent.
Now, it was time to decorate my favorite place..... my tea salon.

This will be a true step back in time. Relax and enjoy a cup of tea in the parlor.

Maybe Swan Lake or the Nutcracker

I have just put the kettle on.

This Christmas tea pot was a gift from last year. I could not wait to pull it out.

I love the color maroon. So,my Christmas theme this year is cranberries and snowmen.

Hearthside Decorated for Christmas.

We are as excited at Hearthside for being featured in this book called Christmas at Historic Houses.

The House is decorated every year by the docents and volunteers. You can see though their decorating ,their passion for this house. There are Christmas trees in every room. This house has 10 rooms with fireplaces in every one of them.

I am very honored this year to show my decorating skills in the house.

I wish you comfort and warmth this holiday season.

Tea Time Tuesday

Happy Tea Time Tuesday.
I am enjoying this day with my friends at Tea time Tuesday.
Three days ago a good friend gave me a gift that I had never seen nor heard about. It is this pretty little silver tea spoon.

You open it up

And you add your favorite whole tea.

As you can see, I am trying this fruity favor Apricot Tea. Than you close the tea spoon and put in in your cup.

You heat water until steeping and then pour into the cup.

You let sit for at least 3 minutes, stir gently not to disturb the brewing time.

Remove the tea spoon and enjoy.

Christmas With Victoria

This is my first blog.
Sharing my Christmas enjoyments!
I am a docent at The beautiful Hearthside House in Lincoln, RI.

This season each volunteer had to pick a room to decorated for Christmas.
I picked one of the children rooms.
In this room is a child's dream, a Sleigh Bed This is one of two sleigh beds remaining in the house. A hand-crocheted bedspread, which was donated to Hearthside, is displayed on the bed.

When decorating a child room in the 1800's, one must not want to over decorate this room.
So I decide to make it warm and cozy, but not overly done.

You want the child to go to sleep thinking of the coming of Santa, not sitting up, looking at blinking tree lights and Christmas decor.

I did add a tree to the room , but the lights were soft light, "no blinking or colored lights". It was so shuttle that it worked well as a night light.

Decorating the home is one of my favorite duties of Christmas time. I added a cute little Christmas Village on the mantle. It was so much fun building the little winter scene and placing the little figures in just the right spot. It even has a little skating pond. I felt like a child again!

The doll has a story and has been in the house for many years. She 100 years old and has been in every part of the house, but she likes it better here. The story is that she has a spirit living in her. Most people who vist the house say,"What a strange looking doll."
I have taken to her and put here in my room. She is at peace! She do not photograph well. Most people can not get a good shot of her.

A lot of thought went into this decorating this room in a true Victorian style.

By the end of the 19th century,taking afternoon and high tea was a daily ritual, complete with rules of etiquette that could make or break a lady of consequence.

Afternoon tea was taken in the late afternoon,usually in a drawing room or sitting room with finger-sized,dainty tea sandwiches, scones and sweets,beautifully arranged on low tables.

Tea was served with the best linens and china of the household,and making tea to perfection was a serious matter.

It was a social occasion, time to relax and converse and satisfy late afternoon hunger pangs.

High tea was actually dinner, served later in the evening,full meal with, of course, tea.

It was high tea because it was served formally at the "high" dining table, rather than on low side tables.

Tea rooms were very popular,catering to the affluent in beautifully decorated rooms complete with fancy linen,superb porcelain or silver tea services and culinary delights.

Tea gardens offered the same in garden settings resplendent with flowers and greenery.

These days, tea parties have once again become popular and women of all ages are enjoying visiting tea rooms that are all decked out Victorian style.

Ladies dress up period style and take great pride on putting on lovely tea parties in their homes

The Day After Thanksgiving!

Yesterday was a day some have set aside to spend time with their families and eat abundent of food. Some might have been even grateful and give thanks before they eat.

This day has become a food marketing's dream. Everyone flood to the super market and buy their chosen Thanksgiving meal. We spend hours in the kitchen cooking for the evenings festivities.

Oh, and let's not forget to decorate the home in our best fall colors for the arrive of our family and guests

We eat, drink and be merry! As the night comes to an end we clean, store away lots of left overs, bid our guest good bye and Thanksgiving is over. We thank God for that!

Now, the day after Thanksgiving day. Are we still thankful or was it just for the day??????

Good Old Fashion Tetley Tea!

I enjoy the taking of tea. I remember my first time having a cup. It was when I was six years old. I woke up one morning with a stuffed nose, coughing and a high fever. My grandmother was visiting us that month and she was good with at old fashion sick remedies. She gave me a cup of Tetley tea with lemon and Jamaican Run. I stayed in bed all morning feeling cozy and loved. So, that was my first introduction to Tetly Tea.

I found this old can at a flee market last week and it brought back that wonderful memory.

The Early Years of Tetley Tea

In 1822, brothers Joseph and Edward Tetley began their business by peddling salt from the back of a pack horse in Yorkshire. Later they added tea to their supplies. Eventually the brothers began "Joseph Tetley & Co." in 1837.

Seeking to expand their business, the brothers relocated to London in 1856. London, at the time, was the center of the world's tea trade. The brothers began to focus on tea supplies.

The brothers parted company and Joseph Tetley renamed the company, "Joseph Tetley and Co., Wholesale Tea Dealers."

In 1871, Joseph Tetley took his son, Joseph Tetley Junior into the business.

Tetley Tea expanded into the blending and packing of tea. By 1888, Tetley Tea expanded into the United States, and began to distribute tea in the country.

Joseph Tetley Junior took over the business in 1889, after the death of his father. Tetley Tea continued to expand in America, and by 1913 Tetley Tea had established plants in New York City.

The Tetley Tea Bag has now become one of Tetley's largest sources of income, and Tetley Tea has continued to design new tea bags. Aside from the drawstring tea bag, where the tea bag has two strings for easy wringing, Tetley has also recently designed the round tea bag for easier and more consistent brewing.

I have put some round tea bags in the old tin tea can and I am going to give it away in my November Tea Swap. I hope they will enjoy an Old Fashion History of Tetley Tea.

Today was a delightful day. The sun shined on the tea salon today!

The weather turned out to be quit warm and sunny.

I love how the sun makes a warm spot on the lounge chair in the parlor. If I have a cat, I am sure he would sit right there.
As much as I enjoy being in and having tea, I needed to be out of doors and enjoying the sites.
I hope your Saturday was as pleasant as mine.

Halloween Left Overs

Halloween is over, but it has left behind lots of candy and treats. I did not have as many Trick-O-Treaters as last year.What to do with these treat?
I have decided to make a decoration out of them. These great little decor can last for my Thanksgiving table Centerpiece. Aren't they delightful?

I will just remover the Ghost and Bat Lollies Pops and add Little Harvest Basket.

Now to get ready for the Thanksgiving Festivities. I wish you all a bountiful November!

You are invited to consider this a retreat, a nostalgic spot for day dreaming of times gone by and to enjoy the enduring traditions of “Tea.” It is our desire that all the working women, homemakers, mothers and caretakers feel like a Queen when having tea at Lady Estelle's Tea Salon.
Small groups of 12 and private parties are welcome only.
It is a small tea salon, I have decorated my parlor and dinning for taking of tea. I opened it up to anyone who would love to come and relax, socialize and have tea and treats with me. I dress in Victorian clothes and entertain by showing you what women worn in the 1800's. My dinning room table is always set for high tea.

My parlor is set up for low tea and is a great place for clothes demonstration.

You ladies will have a wonderful time and so will I.
The gentle men may enjoy a glass of Cherry or Port after tea while they sit and read or enjoy music.

But to my surprise UPS knock on the door with a small package from a dear friend on my tea network. Recently, she had spent some in Ireland and found this lovely tea coaster and thought of me.

I was so pleased. Along with the Coaster was a weeks supply of Bewley's of Island Tea.

Bewley's Tea of Ireland offers a broad range of quality tea.
I had never heard of this, so I was thrilled to be introduced to it.
And speaking of a rare find, she sent me tea from the Java Republic Roasting Company.

Today was a perfect rainy day to read a book or watch a movie. So on my way to the library, I stop to watch the water flow down this little brook off Academy Ave in Providence, Rhode Island. It was so peaceful. I love the rain as it hit the top of my umbrella.
I found this little area along the Blackstone Canal that runs though the heart of the city. It's quit lovely with it's Weeping Willow trees that line the street.
It make for a scene straight out of Virginia.

As I entered my apartment, I have receive a long awaited book from a dear friend, Nancy B.Brewer. She is a great Lady, Author and Historian. She send me a signed book of Carolina Rain.

I was so thrilled. As I began to read the book, I noticed that the main character was born on this date back in 1842. What a coincidence. I began to connect with her right from the start. The book is fiction based on history. It take place during the American Civil War. The main character is a young girl, in her teens in 1860's.
I will go no farther in telling you the story. You must get Carolina Rain!

My Country Victorian Bedroom Makeover!

I found a way to give my bedroom a cozy Country and Victorian look with curtain and drapes. It was fun to get rid of the cluster and organize my life staring with my bedroom.

I draped a very long shear curtain panel over the ceiling fan which I will not be needing in the fall weather.

I also hung a shear bed net over the head of the bed that I purchased from the Victorian Trading Co.

It was fun hanging my hats on the wall, so to make it easy to pick one when I go out to the market or park.

Now that the room is more organized, I can truly call it a dressing room fit for a "Modern Day Victorian Women".

First I must tell you a little about the Hearthside House.

The Legendary Tale of Stephen Hopkins Smith

Popular folklore surrounding the construction of Hearthside states that in the early 1800’s, Stephen Hopkins Smith, a fellow in his 20’s, began to court a young lady from a “prominent Providence family”. Smith was a member of a noted Lincoln family that made its living in the local agricultural industry. Although he was a Quaker and lived the simple life, he circulated in the social circles, which is how he met the woman he set his heart on marrying. She was a little cautious about their future together though and told him that while he was an attractive man, she was looking for a gentleman suitor “of substantial wealth who could provide a lifestyle she was used to”. The Smith family was far from wealthy. But one day, in answer to his prayers, Smith won a lottery, netting him a jackpot of $40,000----an equivalent of $8.6 million by today’s standards.

Smith kept his winnings a secret, and schemed to build a breathtaking home to sweep “Miss Prominent” off her feet. Construction on Hearthside got underway in 1810 and was completed in 1814. Meanwhile the courtship continued. When the house was done, Smith took a horse and buggy and went to Providence and asked the girl to come with him for a ride. As they approached the bend of Great Road, the girl clapped her hands and said, “What a beautiful house, but who would ever want to live way out in the wilderness.” Smith was heartbroken. He drove her back to Providence and never called on her again. In fact, he never married. This story has been told through the years and even made it into the publication, Ripley’s Believe It or Not. It was referred to as the “Heartbreak House”, due to its rejection by the woman it was built for.

I, a women of Providence came to fall in love with this house. I dreamed of being that women who excepted his love and moved on to be the Mrs of this beautiful home. Being an adventurer of dreams, I became a docent and caretaker of this 200 year old historic mansion, who's ownership fell in the hands of the town of Lincoln.
An organization was formed strictly of dedicated volunteers, called "The Friends Of Hearthside" care and preserve this home.
This weekend, a few of these hard working volunteers had the pleasure and honor of enjoying some quality time with a sleepover in the house. What a true Victorian Experience!
Saturday evening we came together and enjoy a night cap of Champagne and good conversation.

Gentleman David enjoyed his pipe by the fire place, as Mr Talbot always did as the one of the owners in 1904. His photo is on the fireplace mantle.

While he was relaxing, Lady Margaret sit at her desk and wrote a letter to her beloved.

After poring myself a wonderful cup of Apricot tea, I retied to the Ladies Polar to enjoy being entertained by Sister Marline at the piano.

All accomplished young women had to learn to play the piano or some instrument of comfort.

We spent the whole evening enjoying each others company and the morning was quickly approaching. It was time to retire, so into our bed clothing and

lock up for the night. David and I made sore the house was locked and all was well in Hearthside.!

I can say for all , we had a most enjoyable time which we did not want to come to an end!

I love the way the Sun came through my bedroom window this morning. It made me get up and thank God for another day. I was feeling so sad yesterday and the rain did not help.

It was quit early and I decided to enjoy a wonderful gift a dear friend from Jamaica sent to me. I wanted to wait for a special day to try it out. I think I will make this day special and enjoy it.

It was so delightful. It's a must try. She also sent me another treat that I will try tomorrow. I am a lucky girl!

It was a delightful afternoon of tea in the park. I had to wear my new Colonial bodice to see how comfortable it will be in re-enactment. I invited my daughter, Little Estelle to join me for tea. She is so much like me. She is planning to do a Zombie Walk later in the day. She love to dress up and parade around town with her friend. A chip off the old block.
As you can see, with the right shoes, hat and Colonial accessories, the bodice will do quit fine.

My lovely sister found this tea pot in Morgan Memorial Thrift Shop in Boston, Mass.
As soon as she saw it, she thought of me.

"What a lovely piece"!
It is small and holds hot water for at least 2 1/2 cups of tea.
Lovely presentation of a tea for two table.
Such a fine design on the handle with lovely red floral print on the fount and back.

I was excited to see Windsor Made in England 3 on the bottom.

I have come to fall in love with the wild flower calledQueen Anne's Lace. There is a field of it on the Chase Farm in Lincoln, R.I.

Legend of the Name:
The origin of when the plant received the Queen Anne moniker is unclear. There are several legends associated with it. One is that Queen Anne of England pricked her finger while making lace and stained it with blood. This refers to the slight reddish purple hue in the middle of each small floret contained within the flower head.

Arts, Crafts and Bouquets
The flower tops retain their lacy appearance when pressed and can be used on greeting cards, scrapbooking and other paper crafts. They make a beautiful addition to a wildflower wedding bouquet but look just as lovely by themselves in a vase.

Using Queen Anne's Lace in Food:
Queen Anne's Lace has many edible parts. The flower tops can be added to salads, made into a jelly or dipped in batter and fried as fritters. The root and seeds can be dried and used as a tea. The roots have a carrot taste and can be used in salads or cooked like a green or vegetable.

Cautions:
Extreme care must be taken in identification as the plant resembles hemlock. Pregnant women should not eat the roots or seeds of Daucus carota as they can cause uterine contractions. The leaves may also cause skin irritation.

Queen of Variety:
This hearty plant likes to take over the garden which is why many gardeners avoid it. However, for edible plant lovers and frugal crafters, Queen Anne's Lace is too valuable and versatile to be considered a weed.

Tea Picnic at the Roger Williams Memorial

On Friday June 25th,
it was my friend, Big Bear's Birthday.
Being my birthday is the day after, I thought maybe I would invite him and some of our friends to join us for a Tea Picnic at the Roger Williams Memorial Visiting Center, around noon.

Many of my friend could not make it, so I decided to enjoy a afternoon tea by myself.

Being a true Victorian. I set up a fine table under some trees for shade. I brought my fine silver tea server, best lace table cloths and napkins, plenty of tea and hot water. A trip to the bakers to get my favorite tea cakes and scones. The table was set and ready for an afternoon delight.
The flowers were in full bloom and a lovely summer breeze was blowing.

A great afternoon for a Victorian Picnic.

It was a fitting for a Queen.
I was there dressed in Victorian attire, enjoying tea, treats and ...what to my surprise!

I had passer by come and join me for tea. We talked about history, our favorite teas, our families and what we liked about living in Providence.
We had great conversations and spent enjoyable time getting to know each other.
All were impressed and very happy to make my acquaintance, and I theirs.

The beautiful park's back drop made a lovely atmosphere for meeting new friends.This is a great spot for an afternoon picnic or lunch break. It is right across from the State House that can be seen in full view.

Tea Parlor is Open!

This is time for summer Victorian leisure at The Tea Parlor. It has been very warm in the parlor this last couple of months.

I am a true Victorian and I can not conceive a modern air conditioner in the tea room, therefore, making it quit uncomfortable for traditional Victorian tea.

Now, there is a beautiful late afternoon summer breeze that flows across the parlor to make for a delightful early evening tea taking.

I have been enjoying these cool evening times with my favorite cup of ginger tea. On the nights I find it to warm for hot tea, I enjoy a large class of iced tea mixed with lemonade. It is quit refreshing. I would be pleased if you would stop by!

I had a full and exciting weekend . On Saturday (my birthday) we had "Open House at Hearthside"
The turn out was excellent for our Antique Appraisal Day, featuring the nationally-renowned antiques expert, author and appraiser Paul Royka . He did an excellent job and our guests had an amazing time.

That same day, in the evening, I was given a surprise birthday party at my dear and good friend Thomas Ferguson home. It was held in his back yard. We had a elegant sit down dinner with 3 courses.

The table was perfectly set and the service was well done. I was very much impressed.

Being I work in the hotel in banquets, my friend wanted to wow me on this special evening. Well, he did.

This lovely birthday cake tea pot set was made for me, by our hotel baker.

I was truly impressed. It was so well done that no one want to cut into it. I will save it for viewing for a couple of days.

It was truly a wonderful evening and I feel very fortunate to have such great family and friends.
I wish all who have a birthday this month, a happy and blessed one.

On Sunday my son Alex, who is in the National Guards, invited the family and friends to the
Rhode Island National Guard Open House and Air Show in Quonset State Airport .

I have always wanted a real silver tea server, but I found them to be to pricey. Well,I finally found what I was looking for at my local Salvation Army. It was selling for $40.00.
I know I could have got it for less, if I waited until yellow tag Wednesday, but I did not want to take the chance.

It sits on it's own warmer and you just tip the pot to pour the tea or hot water.

I just love it. I got another siler and cooper tea server for $10.00.

What a great day for tea finds!

June is National Iced Tea Month and my birthday month.

June is my favorite month. Not just because it is my birthday month, but because it was always the first day of summer vacation, when I was a young girl.
It was time to enjoy not getting up so early, public pools were open, wearing shorts and all the out door activity.
I love to swim and go to the beach or parks.
I did not mine the heat, I loved it.

I always returned to school in September a bit wiser and a tad older. HAPPY JUNE!

Recipes for When Tea Lovers Gather

Simple, Elegant Chicken Salad Sandwiches.
2C. Cooked diced chicken
1/2C.Mayonnaise
1/2C. sliced almonds
Salt and pepper to taste
Bread of your choice, buttered
In a medium bowl, mix diced chicken with mayonnaise and stir until well combined. Stir in sliced almonds. Salt and pepper according to taste. Refrigerate mixture until well chilled. lightly spread filling on the top and bottom slices of bread and assemble sandwiches. Trim crusts and cut into tea sandwiches.

Typical tea sandwiches shapes cut from one regular sandwich are:

Four squares,

Four triangles,

Two rectangles, and

Four small oblong rectangles.
A variety of shapes on your tray, makes for an interesting display.

Coconut Bon Bons

Ingredients:
Candies, Chocolate
15 oz Sweetened condensed milk
1/2 c Butter, or margarine
2 c Confectioners' sugar
12 oz Coconut, grated dried
24 oz Semi-sweet chocolate
4 tb Shortening
Preparation:

Mix together condensed milk, butter, sugar and coconut. Cover with wax paper and chill for 24 hours. Melt chocolate with shortening. Roll coconut mixture into balls and using a fork dip the balls into the chocolate. Drop on wax paper to cool and dry.

Apricot Scones
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup dried apricots,chopped
1 1/4 cups heavy cream
Glaze:
3 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons sugar
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Use an un-greased baking sheet. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl, stirring with
a fork to mix well. Add the dried apricots. Still using a fork, stir in the cream and mix until the dough holds together
in a rough mass (the dough will be quite sticky).
Lightly flour a board and transfer the dough to it. Knead the dough 8 or 9 times. Pat into 2 circles about 6 inches round.
For the glaze, spread the butter over the top and sides of the circle of dough and sprinkle the sugar on top. Cut each circle into 8 wedges and place each piece on the baking
sheet, allowing about an inch between pieces.

Bake for about 11 minutes, or until golden brown.
"What A Treat"

British Tea Scones
Ingredients:

* 12 oz. S.R. flour
* 3 oz. butter
* 1 level tsp. salt
* 6 fl. oz milk
* 2 level tsp. baking powder
* 2 level tbsp. caster sugar (fine sugar)

*Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl and add the sugar and butter. Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Gradually mix in the milk to make dough. Knead the dough on a lightly floured work surface until smooth. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick, then cut out 2-inch rounds with a plain or fluted cutter, kneading and re-rolling the dough until it is all used up. Arrange scones on baking sheets then brush tops with milk. Bake at 450 (gas 8) for 10-12 minutes until well risen with lightly golden tops.

*Use whipped fresh cream, butter and strawberry jam to fill the scones for a delicious tea time treat. Makes 18-24.

Lady Estelle's Etiquette Tea at Hearthside

It is important to teach little girls of today the Victorian rule of etiquette, the right things to do at the right time. Little girls want to be pretty, so we as mothers and teachers must teach them how to act pretty.

In the Victorian times, little girls were treated as little women and were expected to obey the same etiquette rules as adults did.

Today, I held a Victorian Tea and invited a local girl's scout troop from North Providence. They enjoyed tea while hearing how little girls of their age were taught to be little ladies. I taught them tea etiquette, how to be gentle, speak quietly, sit and stand tall and enjoy a good cup of tea.

It was a memorable experience for the girls and myself. I am sure they will remember this day for the rest of their lives. I am pleased. I plan to do more of these Etiquette Teas in the future.

In Celeibration of Mother's Day

Mother's Day may be attributed to Anna Jurvis, who swore at her mother's gravesite in 1905 to dedicate her life to her mother's project and estabish a day to honor mother's, living and dead.

In 1908, the first bill was presented in the U.S. Senate proposing the establishment of Mother's Day, but it was not until 1914, after years of lobbying by Anna Javis, that the U.S. Congress adopted it as an official holiday.

Wearing a white carnation( Anna Jarvis mother's favorite flower) is to honor a deceased mother; wearing a pink carnation is to honor a living mother.

Anna Jarvis became increasing increasingly concerned over the commercialization of Mother's day, and she opposed the selling of flowers and the use of greeting card She wanted it to be a day of sentiment and felt buying cards were a poor excuse for the personal letter which should be written.

Anna Jarvis never had children of her own. She died in 1948, blind and penniless, and was buried next to her mother in a cemetery in the Philadelphia area

The ladies of the Friends of Hearthside are greeting their guest for the American Girls Doll Tea, held on Sunday, May 2nd. It was an fun , educational and memorable afternoon. The President, Kathy Heartly and Robin Blanco Lundgren are wearing lovely fashions from Recollection Biz, a historic romantic woman's clothing and accessories reminiscent of centuries past. They specializing in Victorian and Edwardian fashions. Established in 1980.

I am wearing a hand made day dress with a straw bonnet from 1860, the Civil War era.

I bought my Addy, the American Girl Doll, from that era, to meet the girls and share the mantle with President Abraham Lincoln.

Not only did the little girls enjoy the tea and learn history, so did Addy and I.

This is the best time for tea. It is 6:am on a Monday morning. The spring rain is tapping at my parlor window. The temperature is 65 and quit comfortable. I am enjoying a cup of "Mother's Miracle sent to me by a dear friend. All is quiet and peaceful.

Most people do not embrace Monday mornings, but I do, if they start off like this.
The light is just peeking though the lace curtains to let me know it time for tea!

Tea From Sweden!

I just love tea swaps. My gift of tea went all the way to Nacka, Sweden. So, you know how delighted I was when I received my tea package from so far away.It was a wonderful experience!

I came home yesterday to find my package sitting on the dinning room table.
As I began to open it, the aroma came out of the package was breath taking.
I received a bag of Irish Cream Whole Tea and a bag of tea called Mothers Miracle " llammas Mirale.

The message that came with the tea was " am le haghaidh ai pan tae (time for a cup of tea)

It works well as my Victorian center piece on the tea table.

Unfortunately, the wash bowl that accompanied this lovely pitcher got broken in the move to my new salon.
I am still able to enjoy this nicely crafted item. It was given to me by my dear friends mother and it is quit special to me. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
